Carrier loss run guide
CNA Loss Run Request, Step by Step
To get a CNA loss run, the broker of record can usually request it through the CNA agent and broker portal. A new broker sends a written request with the insured's signed letter of authority, FEIN, policy numbers and periods to the loss run channel CNA publishes. Turnaround is often about 10 business days.

How to request a CNA loss run
Five steps that work for the agent of record, a new broker with a letter of authority or the insured.
-
1
Collect policy details
Get the declarations pages for each CNA policy from the insured: named insured, FEIN, policy numbers and policy periods for the last five years.
-
2
Get a signed letter of authority
Have an officer of the insured sign a letter of authority that names your agency and lets CNA release loss history to you.
-
3
Send to the right channel
If you are broker of record, request the loss run through the CNA agent and broker portal. As a new broker, send the signed letter of authority to the loss run channel published on the CNA website.
-
4
Follow up on a schedule
Follow up on day 3, day 7 and day 14 if no reply arrives, and confirm the current loss run channel with the carrier if the request is not acknowledged.
-
5
Check the reply
Confirm every policy period is present, totals add up and the valuation date is within 90 days before you send the loss run to market.

The same process applies to every carrier. Our guide on how to request loss runs covers the full workflow, and if you are new to the document itself, start with what a loss run report is.
What to include in a CNA loss run request
A complete request is the fastest request. Missing policy numbers or an unsigned authorization are the usual reasons a carrier does not reply.
- Named insured exactly as shown on the CNA policy, plus any additional named insureds
- FEIN of the insured
- Every policy number and policy period, including prior and cancelled terms
- Number of years requested, usually five
- Lines of coverage you need (for example commercial property and casualty)
- Letter of authority signed by the insured
- Where to send the loss run: your email address or a secure upload link
- Request for a current valuation date with paid, reserved and incurred amounts
Use a ready request letter
Our loss run request letter has every field above, with a letter of authority block for the insured to sign. For workers comp history, see workers comp loss runs for the medical and indemnity detail markets expect.
The insured can usually request their own CNA loss runs too, which helps when a carrier is slow to answer a broker.
How LossRunReports sends the CNA request
One request center for every carrier. The signed letter of authority goes out with the request, and follow-ups run on day 3, 7 and 14 until the loss run arrives.

Replies land on a dedicated inbound address or a secure upload link. PDF, scanned, XLSX and CSV loss runs are read into one claims schema, totals are reconciled, and gaps, duplicates and valuations older than 90 days are flagged. Tips for CNA loss runs
CNA writes both property and casualty and professional lines. Request each line by policy number.
For professional liability, ask for claims and incidents with dates reported.
Workers comp history should list medical and indemnity separately with open reserves.
If the account has multiple entities, list each on the letter of authority so no entity is left off.
CNA loss run questions

What should I do if the CNA loss run is missing a year?
Send a follow-up naming the missing policy period and policy number, and keep the original request date on file.
